Aqua Island Colony Oahu The Aqua Island Colony announced they will be doing spalling work the the property. Beginning the week of March 24, 2008, contractors will work on floors 44 through 27. In the removal stage, the pool and jacuzzi will be closed from 8:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday. They will be opened all day on the weekends and holidays. Embassy Suites Hotel Waikiki Beach Walk Oahu The Trump Tower Waikiki is going up across the street from the Embassy Suites Hotel Waikiki Beach Walk with completion schedule for August 2009, so some noise can be expected during the day. During our most recent stay at the Embassy Suites Hotel Waikiki Beach Walk, however, we barely noticed the construction, especially since the rooms have full A/C, making the interiors very quiet. | 2009-08-31 |
Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel Big Island On May 1, the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel is scheduled to begin repair work on cosmetic damage caused by the October 2006 earthquake. The specific areas affected are the main lobby, 7th floor Reef Lounge and the 5th floor Ocean Terrace. No work will take place outside the hotel's central area. The areas of significant work will be completely blocked off and areas in which there is less intensive work will have a protective covering. Work will begin at 7am and finish at 3pm. Between 7am and 9am, all work will be of a quite nature. The anticipated completion date is July 31, 2008. As compensation to the guests, the hotel will be offering a $35 daily resort credit per room during all dates of repair work. In addition, they will present each room upon departure with a one night room certificate good for any future stay.

Hilton Hawaiian Village Oahu The Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon recently opened after an unprecedented, $15 million restoration project. This 5-acre lagoon features a state-of-the-art water circulation system that draws in about 15,000 gallons of water per minute from seven saltwater wells about 200 feet below the surface of the ocean. The project also includes an island with a two-tier waterfall, a board walk, park benches and landscaping that create a park-like setting. Guests can rent a variety of beach equipment, including aqua cycles, kayaks, stand-up paddle surfboards and rafts from the Hilton’s Waikiki Beach Activities desk. In addition, Hilton’s newest tower, The Grand Waikikian, located on the former site of the Waikikian Hotel, on the ‘diamond head’ side of The Ilikai, reached its ‘topping off’ stage, concluding the major exterior work of the project. Hilton Waikoloa Village Big Island The Hilton Waikoloa Village will be undergoing various improvement projects throughout 2008. The Dolphin Quest Village is being rejuvenated but continues to be operational and to fully accommodate all guest needs. The Orchid Cafe is also being rejuvenated and is due to be completed in mid-April 2008. Construction at both projects is scheduled Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM.

Kahala Hotel & Resort Oahu The Kahala Resort is currently undergoing a three-year $50 million upgrade that will overhaul the resort by 2009. Upgrades and renovations will be gradual, encompassing almost all aspects of the resort. The main focus will be on the rooms, however other projects will include the pool, lobby and ballrooms. A 14,000-square-foot spa is in the works as well as expanded wireless internet access.
Rooms in the main tower on floors one to eight are completed. Work on the ninth and tenth floors is projected to be complete by March 16, 2008. The project will continue in the Dolphin Lagoon wing from March 30, 2008 to June 30, 2008 during which the entire wing will not be available. Mauna Kea Beach Prince Hotel Big Island Mauna Kea Beach Prince Resort is closed indefinitely and will be undergoing extensive renovations. All room categories are closed for sale at this time. The Seaside Tennis Club, restaurants and beaches will remain open and available to customers as repairs are being made. The resort has also decided to renovate the Mauna Kea Golf Course. Miramar Waikiki Oahu The Miramar at Waikiki will be closing their pool for retiling work from November 26 through December 7, 2007. They will also be installing new guest room carpets and changing the bedspreads, starting from October 1, 2007 through Mid-December. They will be closing an entire floor at a time to do these refurbishments. Beginning March 31, 2008, they will be painting the exterior of the building as well as performing repair work on some of the Lanais. Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort Oahu The Moana Surfrider has been rebranded as a Westin Resort. The hotel has ongoing renovations to its 430 Surfrider Tower rooms, which will feature Westin Heavenly Beds and flat-screen televisions, while a 15,000 square-foot spa moves into the Tower Wing. Renaissance Wailea Beach Resort Maui The owners of the Renaissance Wailea Beach Resort announced plans for the demolition of the property to make way for the building of an opulent condominium hotel under the Baccarat flag. The 345 room 7 story resort will be replaced with a lower-density cluster of 13 buildings ranging from 2 to 4 stories high, with a total of 193 units ranging in size from one-bedroom to four-bedrooms. The plan is to close the Renaissance Wailea Beach Resort in early September, 2007. ResortQuest at Papakea Resort Maui The ResortQuest at Papakea Resort will be replacing their roof tiles from February 12 2007, to June 30, 2008. Work will take approximately one month per building (11 buildings on 13 acres) and will only affect the 4th floor units, which are closest to the roof. To minimize the impact to guests, work will only be done from 9:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Saturday. ResortQuest at the Waikiki Banyan Oahu The ResortQuest at the Waikiki Banyan has begun work for an upgrade and refurbishment of the guest elevators. ResortQuest Maui Kaanapali Villas Maui The ResortQuest Maui Kaanapali Villas has completed their new ocean front pool featuring a new jet spa, kiddie pool, and a scenic bridge with cascading swim-through waterfalls. The new pool side deck features thatched roof umbrellas and tiki torches. To continue upgrades to the guest experience at the property they will start renovation of their back garden pool area from April 1 to July 1, 2008. The renovation will include: remodeling the Coconut Pool and installing new decking and in-pool seating; installing a new jet spa; adding tiki torches, thatched roof umbrellas, dramatic lighting and Hawaiian-inspired landscaping. Whaler on Kaanapali Beach Maui The Whaler on Kaanapali Beach has been undergoing exploratory work on their underground garage, which impacts the driveway and courtyard. It was determined that emergency repair work was required on the garage part under the driveway. This work has begun and will continue through June 15, 2008. The property anticipates that garage repairs will continue and this work, in addition to the beautification of the courtyard, will commence as soon as the exploratory work is completed and will continue through July 31, 2009. The property will take appropriate action to minimize any inconvenience to guests. Work will be done Monday through Friday from 8:30am - 4:30pm. Guests will not be assigned rooms on the first and second floors fronting the section of the Courtyard where work is being performed. A welcome complimentary sliced pineapple will be provided for all guest rooms. An "Aloha Basket" with island treats will be offered to every arrival. A complimentary Mai Tai Party will be held every other week.
