The Story of this Hawaiian Owned Hotel Chain
Upon returning home from WWII, a young Hawaiian boy realized how much he missed his islands. He longed for the sun, the sea, the warmth and generosity that exuded from the local people. He knew that the Hawaiian islands would someday become a mecca for travel. People would travel throusands of miles to reach a place that we in Hawaii call paradise.
He learned to become a contractor and dreamed of building his own hotels. After years of hard work, he was able to build his first 30 room hotel in Hilo. Soon, the efforts of Richard and his family turned his dream into a reality. His business grew into a 1000 room hotel chain located within the major islands.
These hotels are unique in character because most of the employees of the Sand and Seaside Hotels are of Island descent. Tey all share the unique characteristics of our island and embrace the warmth and Aloha of Hawaii.
